Obituary

WHEELER, Greta Myrtle-79, of Middleton, NS. It is with deepest sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother Greta (Keith) Wheeler. She passed away in her sleep at Soldiers Memorial in Middleton, after numerous health issues. She was born in Oxford she the daughter of the late Laurie and Beatrice (Smith) Keith and when she was 9 years old moved with her family to Hamilton Ont. There she met Charles Wheeler her lifelong partner who, served our country in the military. Her life as a military wife was both exciting and challenging with a boat ride in the 50's to and from Germany and many months alone raising children on base. She was very independent and an avid book reader. After the passing of her beloved husband in 1986 she invited her daughter Loreen & family into her home. She played a vital role in the raising of her grandkids Stewart & Chelsea and helped support her daughter. In 1989 the family moved to Port George where she continued to help raise her grand kids here in the Valley. Greta loved her gardening with a passion and spent many Sundays driving with her family looking at the scenery. She also loved to sit at the kitchen table with friends and family sharing humorous stories with lots of coffee. She spent many hours in the kitchen and loved to cook but always said if she won the lottery would never cook again. She was also a member of the Pythian Sisters of Oxford, and a lifelong member of the One Parent Family Association. Greta is survived by daughters, Loreen Jeffery, Middleton; Elaine (Ron) Harrington, Burlington, ON; son, Keith Wheeler, Invermere, BC; grandchildren, Chelsea Jeffery; Stewart Jeffery; Jordan Wheeler and great grandchild, Charles Durling. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Charles. Cremation has taken place. By Gretas request there will be no visitation or funeral service. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online condolences may be made through: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
