Greta Mae
Zwicker
December 30, 1950 – February 2, 2025
The Celebration of Life for Greta has been changed to Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. due to weather.
Greta Mae Zwicker (Ruggles) passed away after a brief illness on February 2nd, 2025 at the age of 74 in Halifax. She was born, raised and lived her entire life in the Annapolis Valley. Born on December 30, 1950, to Morris and Christene (Burns) Ruggles. She was raised by her paternal grandparents Benjamin and Gladys Ruggles, living not far from her current home.
Greta enjoyed nature and working in her garden, especially known for towering sun flowers. She loved animals and fed all the local wildlife, including songbirds, 27 stray cats, a pair of crows and a charm of hummingbirds. She most enjoyed going for drives all over our beautiful province and having adventures in the side-by-side with her husband, Wayne.
Known to be a hard worker, Greta contributed to the valley's farms for decades, returning every spring, moving from one ripe crop to the next. Doubtful anyone has picked as many sweet strawberries as she has in her lifetime. Also, Greta was known for her endearing personality and charm. Not always saying a lot but when she did, she was spot on with a great sense of humour. Everyone knew when Greta found something funny, for no one had such a big laugh as her (used by her sons on more than one occasion to find her in a crowd).
Greta was predeceased by her first husband, Ronald Hazelwood. She is survived by her husband Wayne Zwicker; sons Michael Hazelwood (Tara) and Ron Hazelwood (Jean); grandchildren Mia and Taylor; and many friends in the community and her church.
As per Greta's wishes, there will be no service. She loved flowers – please plant a sunflower in memory of her this spring.
