Obituary

STUTT, Henry Irwin, CD, LCDR RCN (Ret'd) -- Passed away peacefully at Mountain Lea Lodge in Bridgetown, Nova Scotia on Saturday, April 28, 2012. Born in Outremont, Quebec on January 23, 1926, Irwin was a graduate of McGill University (B.Sc. and B.Ed) and Université du Montréal (M.Ed). A Naval Veteran of the Second World War, he continued to serve in many ships and establishments across Canada. An educator and trainer, he later served with the Department of Manpower where he evaluated training purchased by the Federal Government. He retired in 1981 to Kingston, Nova Scotia. From 1986-88, he served as a teacher-missionary in Japan, sponsored by the United Church of Canada. He was very active in the Kingston United Church serving in many capacities. He supported many charities, hospitals, and Naval organizations. Irwin is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances; by his three daughters, Gail (Harold) Beswick of Belleville, Ontario; Shirley (Greg) Scharfe of Aylesford; and Janet (Doug) King of Halifax; and by his son, Steve (Audrey) of Rockwood, Ontario; as well as five grandchildren, Aaron Fedora, Zachary Fedora, Tony Beswick, Christine (Matt) Crossman, and Ethan Stutt, and one step-granddaughter, Ashley Vanden Biggelaar. Also survived by brothers Howard (Frances), Ottawa, and Terry (Lori), Quebec City. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Mae (Harry) Elsey, Vivian (Ernie) Lousley, his brother, Ralph (Marie), and his elder son, Gary (Jane). Cremation has taken place. Ashes will be scattered at sea. Visitation will be held at Middleton Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 1st from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd at Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 902-825-3448. Reverend Joseph Manchester will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations in Irwin's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, the Red Cross, or the charity of your choice.
