Obituary

BAAK, Hans William Hank 68 of Greenwood passed away suddenly, Tuesday, January 25, 2011 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lisse, Holland, he was the son of the late Leendert and Anna (Nierhaus) Baak. Hank served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 28 years, retiring in 1988 as a Master Warrant Officer. Following his retirement from the Forces, he became a Commissionaire and was employed at the Dixon Centre, Halifax for 9 years. In 2003 he and his wife Jean moved to Greenwood where he became an active member of the Kingston Lions Club as well as an active member of the Kingston United Church. Hank particularly enjoyed gardening and golf and was affectionately known as Opa to his grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife the former Jean Buchan are sons Leonard (Jayne), Stittsville, ON; Tony, Dartmouth and Peter (Frell), Kenmore, ON; sister Marlene Ryding, Lewiston, N.Y.; grandchildren James, Katherine, Julia, Corey, Devon, Kahlan and Mikayla. He was predeceased by a sister Helga. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation by request. A Lions tribute followed by a memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29th in the Kingston United Church, Rev. Michael Mugford officiating. A reception will follow at the Kingston Lions Hall. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
