Harold Stuart "Hal" Elliott

Elliott, Harold Stuart “Hal” – 71, of East Margaretsville, NS, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Digby, he was a son of the late Harold and Joyce (Bent) Elliott. Hal was a proud graduate of Middleton Regional High School and fostered a love of sports from an early age. This was especially true of baseball where he captained the outfield at center field and would often throw runners out at home plate. In high school he excelled at volleyball and track and field holding the school record for discus throw for many years. Throughout his adulthood he continued involving himself in local athletics through the Curling Club and by volunteering his time coaching hockey & softball. He was a lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, never missing a game. The same could be said of his dedication to NASCAR races. An avid sportsman, Hal was a member & President of the Annapolis Fly Fishing Association. He enjoyed many memorable fishing trips with his brother and son in Cape Breton. Hal was also a hunter – until he successfully brought home the 8-point buck that still greets guests in the porch of his farmhouse.

As a young adult, Hal ventured to Ontario to work for GM Canada manufacturing vehicles. In 1974, he moved back to Nova Scotia to work for MT&T as a linesman. Not long after, Hal purchased a hobby farm in 1977 where he eventually raised his family. After working with Bell Aliant as a telephone technician for 35 years, Hal retired at the age of 55. In his retirement, the farm kept him busy with gardening and tending to a herd of beef cattle.

Hal was no stranger to community involvement. He dedicated countless hours over the years volunteering with the Annapolis PC Association serving as President.

Surviving is his loving wife of 42 years, Donna (Bishop); daughter, Kathryn “Katy” (Colin) Wagner, Aylesford; son, Travis (Laura) Elliott, East Margaretsville; grandchildren, Sadie, Lyza, Wilder, Leona, Warren; brother, Wayne (Darlene) Elliott, Sydney River; honourary brother, Randy Bent, North Williamston; brother-in-law, Gary (Mary) Bishop, St. John’s; sister-in-law, Brenda (Bud) Bennett, Burin; and several nieces & nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Donations in memory of Hal may be made to the Annapolis PC Association, Margaretsville Community Hall, or charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting www.middletonfuneralhome.com
