Obituary

HUNTLEY, Harris Thomas ~ Our dad, Harris Huntley, of South Berwick, Kings Co., N.S., beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, June 9, 2025, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born June 5, 1934, in Berwick, NS, Dad was the son of the late Perley and Carrie (nee Hiltz) Huntley. On January 14, 1956, he married our mom, Thelma, and they settled and raised their family in South Berwick on the land where our dad grew up. He is survived by children, Martin (Gail), Marlene (Simeon), Philip (Cathy) and Denise (Wade); grandchildren, Lori, Mark, Rhiannon, Samuel, Evan, Ryan, Logan, and Rachel; and great-grandchildren, Caleb and Leah. He is also survived by his brother and next-door neighbour, Cyril, along with cousins, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife, the former Thelma Nauss; son, Wayne; sisters, Edith (Charles) Foster and Audrey (Harry) Crandall; and brother, Cecil (Marie) Huntley; sister-in-law, Jean Huntley.  Dad was dedicated to giving back, whether as a scout/venturer leader, or a member of its Kings District executive. Along with Mom, he was president/past-president of the Berwick Belles 'n Beaus Square Dance Club; they were involved with the club for over 50 years. During his working years, Dad was an outreach worker with Canada Manpower, helping the most vulnerable with employment needs. A founder of the Annapolis Valley Work Activity Society (now PeopleWorx), he helped initiate the Annapolis Valley Work Centre, which has helped countless adults over the decades; he was a board member for 25 years. A life-long member of Christ Anglican Church, Berwick, he held nearly every office over his lifetime. He first studied then mentored Education for Ministry, guiding many successfully through the program. Dad was also a Cursillista, making his Cursillo in 1986, and participated in many over the following years. But first and foremost, he was our dad, always there for us in his quiet, solid and supportive way. We love him and miss him, but we know he is with Mom and our brother Wayne, and all our family and friends who have gone before him – ready for some dancing or a good game of cards! On Friday, June 13, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. a visitation will be held in Christ Anglican Church Hall, 238 Commercial St., Berwick, NS. A Celebration of Life with Rev. Dorothy Miller officiating will be held the next day, Saturday, June 14, in Christ Anglican Church beginning at 3:00 p.m. followed by a reception in the hall. A private family interment at Berwick Cemetery will follow the reception. Donations may be made in memory to the Scouts Canada No One Left Behind (NOLB) program (https://www.scouts.ca/programs/no-one-left-behind.html?form=donate), to Christ Anglican Church or its Growth in Ministries Fund. Special thanks to medical unit staff at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, for their wonderful care.
