Ford, Helen Elaine
– Age 81 of Southville, Digby Co., passed away Thursday August 7
th
, 2020 in Digby General Hospital. Born July 9, 1939 in Southville, she was a daughter of the late William and Dorothy (Wagner) Steele. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She worked as a secretary at the Weymouth Consolidated School, before marrying in 1963 and raising her family, while working alongside her husband on the family ranch. She was a devoted member of the Southville Church of Christ, where she was actively involved in: teaching Sunday School and VBS, the Women's Missionary Society, the Save and Do group, and many Bible Study groups. She loved the outdoors and always preferred being outside whether working in the garden, fishing, or walking in the woods. She loved to read, play games and was an avid quilter. In recent years, attending the Save and Do group and Bible Study was the highlight of her week, where she enjoyed meeting with friends. She was an excellent cook and was particularly known for her rolls and cinnamon buns. They were often a requested item for many functions. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lindsay Ford; children, Rachel (Michael) Shaw, Canaan; Edwina Ford, Southville; Eugene (Jo-Anne) Ford, Beach Point, P.E.I.; grandsons, Daniel, Caleb and Luke Shaw, Benjamin and Joshua Ford, as well as many other cherished extended family members. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by an infant brother, James Steele, and sister, Ruby (Donald) Mullen. We wish to extend our sincere thanks for the compassionate care given by the staff of the Digby/Clare Home Support Agency and the Digby General Hospital. All those who came in contact with her were so kind and we will be forever grateful. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 7-9 pm Tuesday, August 11
