Obituary

Mrs. Helen Irene (Pierce) Brown , age 98, of Middleton, and formerly of South Farmington, peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, in Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre, Middleton. Irene was born April 18, 1921, in Nictaux, a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Hirtle) Pierce. An Obstetric R.N. for over 30 years, Irene enjoyed nursing in a variety of hospitals in Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Alberta. She had a keen sense of observation, a mild disposition, and was dedicated to her nursing career. In her late 50's, she rediscovered and married her school sweetheart Cliff Brown, and returned to the Annapolis Valley. This is where she met her neighbours, Norma and Buz Fredericks, who remained the dearest of friends. Special thanks to Norma and Buz for their frequent visits and support throughout. Irene was devoted to family, and cherished family visits and get-togethers. She was kind, supportive, and loved to prepare meals for family and friends. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Clifford; sisters, Eleanor (Pierce) Barnett and Winnifred Pierce; brother, George Edward Pierce and his wife, Francina Pierce; and niece, Susan (Barnett) Smee. Irene is survived by her nephews, Steve Barnett (Jean), Robert Pierce (Pam), and Richard Pierce (Eva); nieces, Rose Marie Pierce (David), and Nanci (Barnett) Morgan; nephew-in-law, Barry Smee; and many grand- and great-grandnephews and nieces. The family of Irene Brown would like to thank Heart of the Valley management, staff, and friends for the abundant kindness and excellent care provided to our dear Aunt while she was a resident at the Granville Villa of Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 PM Sunday, December 1st, at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St.  Interment of ashes will follow at the Tremont Cemetery. In keeping with Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place. Donations in memory may be made to Soldiers' Memorial Hospital Foundation.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home.
