SPENCER, Helen Leota ~ Age 87, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Waterville, she was a daughter of the late Clinton S. and Alice E. (Hannam) Gillis. Helen in her early years had worked at the Waterville Canning Factory, later at Larsen Packers Ltd., Berwick, and retired as a caregiver at Seaforth's Rest Home, Berwick. She was a member of the Waterville Baptist Church and had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department. Helen was devoted to her loving family and will be missed by all who knew her. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are her children, Malcolm (Donna) Spencer; Anne DeMont; Pandora (Gary Jones) Taylor; Robert "Yogi" (Shannon Craig) Spencer; Becky Surette; Sherry (Roger) Prall; Jeffery Spencer; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Spencer; sons, Michael and Timothy Spencer; daughter, Shelly Guest; sons-in-law, Donald Guest and Gary DeMont; daughter-in-law, Lynn Spencer; brothers, Murray, Harold and Venning "Ven" Gillis; sisters, Kathleen Mosher and Madeline "Mike" Gillis. Visitation will take place 7-9 p.m., Wednesday evening in the Waterville Baptist Church, 1243 Mill Street, Waterville, from where the funeral service will take place at 3 p.m., Thursday, March 7. Pastor Christina Bigelow officiating, with a reception to follow at the Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department – Cornwallis Square Village Hall. Spring interment will take place in Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Waterville & District Volunteer Fire Department or to Waterville Baptist Church.
