DOWLING, Henry Dennis "Harry" - 81yrs, of South Greenwood, NS passed away peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2013 in the Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Halifax, NS he was a son of the late Henry and Florence (Aulenbach) Dowling. Harry retired after serving his country for 28 years with the Canadian Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War and joined the "Special Force" in 1950 and was drafted to Korea with the 2nd Battalion RCR. He later transferred to RCEME completing four tours with NATO in Europe. Harry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98 Kingston and had a passion for playing and fixing guitars. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helga (Voigt) and son, Peter Dowling, both of South Greenwood; sisters, Rose Feener, Bridgewater; Mary (Ross) Butterfield, Victoria, BC; Nancy (Jack) Fowler, Kingston; Kay "Honey" Smith, Barrie, ON; brothers, Eddie Dowling, Meadowvale; George (Sue) Dowling, Edmonton, AB and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister Florence Harding and brother Albert Dowling. Visitation will be held 7-9PM Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute conducted by Branch No. 98 Kingston, will be held at the funeral service 2:00PM, Wednesday, July 31, 2013 with Pastor Mitch Lewis and Pastor Carmen Crockett officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery. By request, family flowers only.
