Obituary

Blair, Herbert Edward – 83 of Wilmot, passed away Monday, December 5, 2022 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown.  Born in Kentville, Herbie was the son of Florence and Wilbert Blair, of Bramber, Hants County, and one of 24 children. He became a foster child and lived in various households, the last one being in Grafton, Kings County. Now only one brother, Percy resides in New Minas. Herbert, known usually as "Herbie" was a free spirit who loved to help people; driving them for errands and trucking requirements, also worked in the woods when he was a younger man. Herbie was a country music fan and owned many cassette tapes and CD's. He had rhythm in his bones going to the extreme of being a tap dancer in one particular spot at the Port George Jamboree each July. He was well known in those circles. Herbie was married three times, namely Minnie, Linda, and Carol Ann. He had about four children whom he really wished to see again, three being in Ontario. One daughter did visit from Halifax. He tried through Ancestry to find them but wasn't successful. He loved the image of being a cowboy, wearing the cowboy hat, shirt, belt buckle, and cowboy boots. It made him feel special. He never liked the feeling of being restrained so having spent the last year, first in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital and then Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown, he was a very unhappy person and tried every effort to have his wishes answered but to no avail. Soon it was realized he was missing his church attendance at Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church in Middleton; as his caregiver, I felt the need to take him to church. This made him very grateful. The biggest accomplishment he had was to completely give up smoking that had lasted a lifetime for him. Herbie's death was an unexpected occurrence as he was basically healthy. His wife Carol Ann had passed away in May 2021 and he missed her tremendously. May all the angels surround you, Herbie and greet you with their wide-open arms and just maybe you could ride that motorcycle you wanted to on the streets of gold in Heaven. Rest in peace, Herbie; you will be sorely missed but at least you will reside with Carol Ann once again and be eternally together as God promises each of us. Graveside memorial service will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 in North Kingston Cemetery, Rev. Sweis Ubels officiating. Donations in memory may be made to the Kings County SPCA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448. Online guest book may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
