Obituary

It is with heavy hearts the family of Hugh Archibald "Hughie" MacLeod, 64 of Victoria Vale sadly announce his peaceful passing on May 19, 2023. Born in New Glasgow on October 29, 1958, he was the son of Raymond and Rosalind MacLeod.

Hughie will be dearly missed by his wife of 44 years Cindy (Gordon), daughter Janice (Bonnie) MacLeod, son Daniel (Tracy) MacLeod, beautiful granddaughter Cassidy and numerous grand fur-babies.

Hughie is also survived by his sisters Phyllis Jordan, June Cameron, Norma (Gordie) MacDonald, Lois (Russell) Hendsbee, Aileen (Wilbert) Sutherland, Donna (David) Avery; brother and sisters-in-law Donnie (Kim) Gordon, Shane Leadbeater, Rebecca (Laurie) Lightfoot, Esther (Rocco) Difabio, Bonnie (Wayne) Curtis, Brenda Pryor and Suzanne Gordon as well a wonderful abundance of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Rosalind MacLeod, brothers-in-law Bob Jordan, Bob Cameron; nephew Donald Cameron; father and mother-in-law Arnold and Joyce Gordon; brothers-in-law Arnold "Ginner" and Kenny Gordon; sister-in-law Linda Leadbeater.

Hughie worked at Sobeys in Stellarton and TRA in Middleton for more than 37 years. He was a very active member of the St. John's United Church, Middleton, involved in numerous committees and volunteered at the 12 Baskets Food Bank, Nictaux.

Hughie was involved in numerous sports as a player and coach. He was a devoted fan of the Oilers and the Blue Jays. He proudly supported and enjoyed all his family's sports. His genuine kindness and witty humour will be tremendously missed. Hughie was a loving husband, proud dad and grandfather, caring brother, and friend to many.

The family would like to thank all staff at the Valley Regional and Soldiers' Memorial Hospitals for their care and support. Special gratitude to our singing angel at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital.

The family will receive visitors 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 25, 2023 and Hughie's celebration of life will be held 2:00 pm on Friday, May 26, 2023 all in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448. Rev. Karen Ralph officiating. For those unable to attend the service a 'live streaming' of the service will be available beginning at 1:55 ADT on our website under the Live Stream option. A reception will follow the service and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John's United Church, Middleton, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the 12 Baskets Food Bank, Nictaux.
