HARRIS, Ian Newnham died on August 7, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Ian was born on July 21, 1932 to the late Gordon Sydney Harris and the late Edith Blanche (Newnham) Harris. He was married for 57 years to his love, the late Geraldine (Martin) Harris. Ian served proudly with the Royal Canadian Air Force throughout the 1950s and 60s before deciding to embark on a different career path. He returned to school and graduated from Acadia University in the early 1970s with a Bachelor of Education. Ian taught junior high at Dwight Ross in Greenwood where he remained until his retirement. Ian loved to travel, was an avid golfer and gardener, and especially enjoyed his summer cottage at Cold Spring Head, Amherst Shore. Ian is survived by his two sons Stewart (Deborah) and David (Edwina Ehler), and his four grandchildren Erica (Tyler Bent), Lauren, Gordon, and Mary. A special thank you to the staff of Medical A at the Valley Regional Hospital for their excellent care and compassion during Ian's last days. A celebration of Ian's life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2011 at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street (902) 825-3448. Interment will take place at a later date.
