Ivor Thomas
Walker
February 7, 1925 – March 17, 2016
It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing at his Greenwood home of Ivor Thomas Walker, aged 91, on 17 March 2016. Ivor was born 7 February 1925 in Nottingham, England to the late Clare (Smith) and Walter Walker. He came to Nova Scotia as a 3 year old. In his teens he joined the RCAF as a pilot, returning to England where he met and married Florence "May" Smith. After a brief interlude as a civilian after the war, he rejoined the RCAF and served in postings across Canada. Upon his retirement in 1979 he began a second career as the co-owner of Valley Natural Foods in Greenwood. In 1991 he and May sold the business to daughter, Cindy, but Ivor continued to do the business accounting until the day of his death. He was pre-deceased by his wife May (2004), his brother-in-law Rev Earl Ward, his son-in-law Stephen Dickinson and his niece Elizabeth MacKenzie. He is survived by daughters Patricia Walker (Gary Merkoske), Greenwood; Marilyn Walker, California and Cindy Bushell (Rene Rogerson), Greenwood; grand-sons Christopher, David and Kyle Bushell; great-grand-sons Ethan Thomas, Ryan and Jack Ivor Bushell; sister Yvonne Ward, Halifax; nephew Gary Ward (Janice), Halifax and niece Sandra Ward (Tucson). Ivor was an avid reader of history and kept abreast of current events. He maintained an interest in flying and aircraft. He golfed for many years but his weekly gatherings for bridge and poker were important social events. An honourable man with a great sense of humour, he will always be missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, April 11, 2016 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St. (902) 825- 3448 with Father Michael McKeage officiating. Interment will be in North Kingston Cemetery. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to a charity of your choice. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
