Obituary

Desmond, James Ross – 89, of Greenwood, passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at home. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late Isaac and Jessie May (Paris) Desmond.
Jim was president of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 98, Kingston for five consecutive years and was chair of the Poppy Campaign. Jim held the highest awards - Meritorious Service and Palm Leaf. He also did three UN Tours: two in Egypt and one in Cyprus. He received the Canadian Peacekeepers Medal, the Military CD, and the Special Service Medal.
Jim was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Linda (Johnson); sons Shawn (Darlene), Petawawa, ON; David, Greenwood; grandchildren, Crystal, Kendrick, Jamal, Michia, Oakleigh; great grandchildren, Chelsie, Danyl, Colby, Nevaeh, Shirley, Mordecai; great great grandchild, Kingsley; mother-in-law, Arvella Johnson, Yarmouth; countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by seven sisters, six brothers, and his father-in-law, George Johnson.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Postulant Wade Seymour and Shawn Desmond officiating. A reception in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 98, Kingston will follow the service. Interment will be in Greenville Cemetery, Yarmouth at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to Greenville Baptist Church, Yarmouth, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of choice if you wish.
