HEALY, James Frederick "Fred" 76, of Lawrencetown, Annapolis Co., passed away peacefully Saturday, July 30, 2011 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, surrounded by his family. Born in St. Croix Cove, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Minnie (Poole) Healy. Fred was a 50 year member of the Lawrencetown & District Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Fire Chief for 20 years from 1967-1987. He was a founding committee member of the Lawrencetown & District Swimming Pool. Fred was a past Nova Scotia Director of Maritime Fire Chiefs Association; past Annapolis County Director for Western Nova Scotia Fire Association, past Annapolis County Director and 2nd Vice President of Nova Scotia Firefighters School, past President of Annapolis County Fire Association. He was also a recipient of Nova Scotia Heart of Gold Award, Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, Maritime Fire Chiefs Association Award of Service, Provincial Volunteer Week award in recognition of exceptional Volunteer Service, Annapolis County Recreation Department Certificate of Appreciation. He served as a Village of Lawrencetown Commissioner for 9 years and was a Wall of Honour 2011 recipient. Fred was a Lawrencetown Meals on Wheels driver, member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia and Canada and Ward Chairman for Lawrencetown area. He enjoyed working in the woods, woodworking in his shop, riding his four-wheeler, fishing and liked to travel. Fred enjoyed and loved his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife the former Daisy Dennis; daughters, Wanda (Rick) Batson, Brickton; Brenda Judge, Halifax; Crystal Healy, Trenton, ON; son, Philip (Chantal) Healy, Gander, NL; stepdaughter, Joan Phillips (Glen Penny), Centrelea; stepson, Edward (Cyndi) Porter, Nictaux; sister, Vivian Saunders, West Paradise; brother, Terrance Healy, Phinney Cove; sister-in-law, Sandra Healy, Saskatchewan; grandchildren, Ben (Loran), Alicia (Philip), Mitchel, Emma, Kempton, Dominique, Travis, Cassandra (Steve), Devonna, Evanya and six great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Juanita; brother, Oscar and brother-in-law, Charles Saunders. By Freds request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Friday, August 12, 2011 in the Lawrencetown Fire Hall, 549 Main Street, Pastor Patty Beals and Rev. Mark Reece officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. A reception will follow in the Lawrencetown Fire Hall. By request, family flowers only. Donations in Freds memory may be made to the Lawrencetown & District Volunteer Fire Department or Canadian Cancer Society.
