HUG, James Horace of Bridgetown - We are saddened today by the loss of a dear husband and friend, father, grandfather and great grandfather, in the Veteran's Wing of the Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton on January 8, 2012. Jim was 87, born on April 24, 1924 in Verdun, Quebec, the son of Eugene and Ellen Hug (Smith). He attended school in Verdun until he took his first job with Northern Electric. In 1942 Jim joined the RCAF in Montreal, receiving his basic training in St. Jean, Quebec, further in Halifax, and then onto the International Airport in Gander, Newfoundland where he worked in Air Traffic Control. After the war, he was stationed at Greenwood. In 1946, Jim left the service to rejoin Northern Electric. Soon after he was transferred to Bell Canada where he worked as a Methods Analyst in Dorval. Jim loved his work but longed to go back to the Annapolis Valley and farm. After 33 years he retired and settled on a farm in Bridgetown. Jim started a new chapter in his life-farming. Jim was born to be a farmer, he loved working with animals and was always supportive of the farming community. He also took an interest in Senior Housing and was a member, where he served as a Volunteer for the Housing Authority Board for 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Barbara (Cox) formerly of Middleton; daughter Cynthia Richardson, Welland, Ontario (Bob deceased); son Bruce (Janet) Hug of Clarence, NS; grandson Jeremy (Katie); granddaughters, Christina (Stephen) and Nicole (Justin); great granddaughters, Hudson, Sophie and Olivia. Brothers, George Hug, Wellington, Ontario and Eugene Hug, Montreal, Quebec. Jim was predeceased by his parents and sister, Hilda McAlear. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13th at 2:00 pm at the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, (902) 825-3448 with Mr. Jim MacDonald officiating.
