Born on May 27, 1941, in Sheet Harbour, Halifax Co., he was the son of the late Edward and Beulah (Hines) Franey.

Jim was an affectionate, dedicated and hardworking individual who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He was devoted to his family, his community, and to God. Jim was an active member of Aylesford & District Volunteer Fire Department, where he had served as fire chief and for many years as deputy chief. He was a member and past master of Harmony Lodge No. 52, A.F. & A.M., Aylesford and member of both Mayflower Chapter No. 2 and Laurel Chapter No. 67, Order of the Eastern Star. Jim was an avid bird watcher and enjoyed feeding the many birds that came to the house, as well as sharing his extensive knowledge with anyone who would lend him an ear. He was also a well-known collector of anything to do with the fire service. Jim had worked in the plumbing and heating business for many years and was employed at T.P. Calkins/Sumners Plumbing for over 40 years.
