Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Lawrence Annis "Jim" aged 79 of Bloomington, NS on May 29, 2025. Jim was born on February 1st, 1946 in Middleton. He was the son of the late James Harold and Ethel (Trask) Annis.

Jim grew up in Bloomington, one of six siblings. He married his wife Barbara (Parks) in 1969.  Together, they had three children and were married for 54 years until Barb's death in 2024. Jim enjoyed being outdoors whether camping with the kids, tending his woodlot, haying, snowshoeing, growing vegetables, or working with animals. When his kids were young, he was a Cub-Scout and 4H leader. In later years, Jim was proud to become a grandparent and treasured the time he spent with each of his grandchildren.

As a child, Jim developed a strong interest in forestry and working the land through helping his father. After graduating high school, Jim went on to graduate from the Maritime Forest Ranger School and then worked as a Forest Ranger/Forestry Technician for the NS Department of Lands and Forests. He worked there until he retired in 1996. After retirement, Jim continued to work in the forestry industry cutting wood and running his own sawmill. He was also a volunteer with Annapolis County Ground Search and Rescue for many years.

He is survived by his son Jamie Annis (Carrie), South Farmington; daughter Lora Gosse (Graham), Wilmot; and son Matthew Annis (Carlee), Arcola, SK. He was a beloved grandfather to Hunter, Cooper, Keenan, Daniel (Caelum), Taylor (Jill), Myles, Lillian, Maddax, Elsja, Maliyah, and Kaynen. He is also survived by his sisters Lorna Copp (Donald), and Dorothy Annis; sisters-in-law Marie Nixon (Bill), Freda Bell, Joan Bell (Graham), Donna Hatt, Carolyn Parks (Mike), Rose Longley; brother-in-law Terry Parks (Susan); and many nieces and nephews.  Along with his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by his sisters Thelma Annis and Geraldine Annis, brother Alfred Longley, father and mother-in law Elmer and Lurleene Parks, sister-in-law Patricia Richter, and brother-in-law Hugh Parks.

The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team (especially Janet and Tim), Dr. M. Saxon, Dr. G. MacDonald, and the nurses at VRH and VON who all showed great care and compassion for Jim during their interactions with him.
