Obituary

STRONACH, James Thornton "Jim" ~ Age 73, of Forest Glade, Annapolis Co., N.S., passed away on Monday, March 16, 2026, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on October 15, 1952, in Middleton, he was a son of the late J. "Mack' (MacKenzie) Stronach and Ethel I. Lantz-Stronach Rafuse.
Jim was a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces (formerly Royal Canadian Navy) from 1971-1980, serving on HMCS Preserver, HMCS Protecteur, and HMCS Huron. He graduated from the Stationary Engineering program at the community college in Middleton as a young man.
Jim served as the Airfield and Grounds Supervisor at 14 Wing Greenwood for many years. He was a member of the Union of National Defense Employees at that time.  Jim loved his little dog 'Griffin', he loved fishing and visiting with friends, relatives, and just about anyone. Talking about family and community history was important and enjoyable to Jim. Traveling the back roads of Nova Scotia took him to many interesting places and was a favorite pass time.  He will be remembered by his family and many friends.
Surviving are sons, James Stronach, Kingston; Devenport "Deven" Stronach (Patricia Roach), Nictaux; Logan Stronach (Samantha Gray), Saint John, New Brunswick; grandchildren, Eva, Reanna, Luther, Brooke, Amelia, Ella, Ayla, Dazen, Lyra, Julia and Jesse; sisters, Nancy Coughlin (the late Floyd), Brickton; Gail Bugden (the late Dave), Brickton; Joyce Jackson (Gordon), Clarence; Anne Crocker (Ted Ettinger), East Margaretsville; brother-in-law, Ray Sanford (the late Wanda), of Bear River East, several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his eldest sister, Wanda Sanford; brother-in-law Floyd Coughlin, and brother in-law, Dave Bugden.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax and the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, who were so compassionate in their care of our father/brother.
All are welcome to come say good by to Jim at a reception that will take place from 2-4 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. A celebration of life will be held at a later date that is yet to be determined to ensure everyone who should be there can be.
