Obituary

Slauenwhite, Jane Elizabeth – It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jane Elizabeth Slauenwhite aged 65.  Jane passed away at home in Clarence NS, Sunday, February 5, 2023, after complications from an illness.  Born in Middleton, NS, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Kathryn (Baxter) Durling.  Jane spent her childhood on the family farm near Lawrencetown, Annapolis County, where she was a graduate of Lawrencetown Consolidated High School (LCHS) in 1975 and the Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS) in 1976.   She spent most of her career as a property mapping technician for the provincial government, taking her to New Glasgow for many years and back to Lawrencetown in 1995.  In Lawrencetown she reunited with Edmund, the love of her life. They married in 1999.

Jane had an active social life, which included many evenings at the bingo hall, curling rink as well as several church groups, fundraisers and volunteering at the local food bank over the years.  She had many hobbies and a real talent for cross-stitch, sudoku and mastering a puzzle.  She was known for her sense of humor, quick-wit, making lists and telling it like it is.  Throughout her life she was compassionate and caring and looked after everyone in her circle in one way or another.  Jane was an avid traveler taking numerous trips and vacations here and abroad, with all her favorite travel-buddies who she loved dearly.  Some of her favorite destinations included Hawaii, Iceland, New York, and Las Vegas as well as Ireland and the Hadrian's Wall.  She loved the theatre and spoke fondly of the many concerts she attended, including Celine Dion, CATS and Hairspray. Jane embraced life and loved new experiences. She was also  a history buff, challenging her family at friends at Jeopardy and trivia.

Jane is survived by her loving husband, Edmund; and stepchildren, Jeffrey Slauenwhite, Kristen & William Hammond (Slauenwhite); and treasured grandchildren, Ari and Lexie Hammond of New Zealand.  Her brother, David and Barb Durling (Feener) of Lawrencetown and children, Greg Durling, and his daughters, Allie, Taylor and Brooklyn, as well as Jane's niece, Kris (Durling) and her husband, Mike and their children, Brandon and Emily. Sister, Debi (Durling) and husband, Brian Chandler and their children, Katie and David. Her sister, Ruth Specht and many more relatives.

We will always miss and lovingly remember you, Jane. Rest easy until we meet again.
