RAWDING, Janet Ida ~ Age 88, of Greenwood, Kings Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by all her family on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Halifax Infirmary Site, QEII, Halifax. Born on November 20, 1934, in Waltham, Mass., U.S.A., she was a daughter of the late Donald and Clara (Nickerson) Sutherland.

Janet had attended school in the United States, and later in Liverpool. She graduated as a Registered Nurse, working in various locations including Victoria General, Halifax, in Quebec and later at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton, with 30 some years combined service. She attended church wherever she lived and was a long-time faithful member of Kingston United Church. Over the years volunteering was very important to Janet in 2012, she was awarded the Village of Kingston Volunteer of the year. Many organizations include Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, Beehive Adult Service Centre. Red Door, member and past president of Kingston and District Health Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, member of Middleton Curling Club, past president of Paragon Golf & Country Club ladies league and past president of the Nova Scotia Ladies Golf Association. Served on the Canadian ladies Golf association rules committee. Past treasurer of the Western Kings arena and served in numerous positions at Kingston United Church.

Janet was an avid golfer, bridge player, vivacious reader, and quilter gifting each of her children and grandchildren with one. She loved to travel around the world with Ted and later with family and friends. Janet would call herself a political junky and had a keen interest in what was going on in the world. She loved spending time with her family and especially loud dinners where issues were debated. Janet had a great circle of longtime friends who kept in touch with her when she moved to Cameron Hall where she made new ones.

Surviving are daughter, Mary Bauch, Kingston; sons, Donald (Patsy) Rawding, Greenwood; Paul (Wanda), Rawding, Tantallon; Brian (Cyndy Allen) Rawding, Halifax; grandchildren, Dieter (Sabrina), Andrew (Tina), Krista (Ryan), Hilary, Alex, Courtney (Adrienne), Teddy, William and Kathleen; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Mike Parry, Kingston, Ont.; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Wilfred Crouse (1958); second husband, Edward "Ted" Rawding (1998); sister, Catherine Sutherland; brother, Neil (Betty) Sutherland.

Visitation will take place from 12:30 – 1:30 pm, followed by memorial service at 2:00 p.m., both on Saturday, July 29, in Kingston United Church, 733 Main St., Kingston. Rev. Valerie Taylor officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment in Kingston United Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in her memory may be made to Kingston United Church or to Kingston Library.
