Janice Lynn
Mcneil
July 11, 1948 – August 18, 2020
McNEIL, Janice Lynn ~ Age 72, of Berwick, Kings Co., N.S., passed away at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a long courageous and stubborn fight with cancer on Tuesday, August 18, 2020. Mom was born July 11, 1948, in Annapolis Royal, she was the oldest child to the late Stanley and Marjorie (Jefferson) Webb. Mom mainly grew up in the city and in the 70's her family moved to the Valley. This is where she got a job at the Grand View Manor in housekeeping. The valley is where she met and married the guy across the tracks, the love of her life for almost 42 years, George McNeil. After a few years they gave birth to me an only child Alice McNeil (Greg Foster) she became a stay at home Mom. I was their pride and joy until 21 years later I chose to give up my spotlight and they received their only grandchild, Hope Mailman. Mom adored Hope and she became the apple of her eye. Like any typical Nana she would brag about Hope to anyone and everyone who would listen. Mom had a special place in her heart for her fur baby Jozie, who always slept on the back of Moms chair as her protector. Mom loved her family especially her three siblings, Dorothy (Murray) Legge, Bakers Settlement; Jessie (the late Kenneth) Ettinger, Aylesford; Wallace (the late Kathryn) Webb, Berwick. They loved to tease each other and always kept in close contact regardless the miles between them. Mom loved her extended family of sisters in-law, Carol (Brian) Cook, Windermere; Karen (the late James) McNeil, Aylesford; and brothers- in-law, Ronnie McNeil, Kingston; and the late Robert McNeil. Her many nieces, nephews, and cousins meant the world to her as well, she was always eager to keep in touch and watch as their own families grew. Mom and Dad loved to explore this big province of ours, as a child they've hulled my bum all over it from one end to the other. Mom had a love for the ocean and her country music jams, her and Dad would be out every night to a jam at some place or another. They also would make the daily trip to the Greenwood Mall for a coffee and scratch tickets (thanks Mom for all those lotto scratchers) and to hand out her hugs to all the mall employees who she loved to visit. They have met so many wonderful friends through the years who have meant so much to them both, and if you knew Mom she almost always had a smile on her face and her arms wide open for a hug, she was "nonjudgmental and innocent". We, her family would like to thank Dr. Judith Puetz who has gone above and beyond her title for Mom and our family. The Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses who helped Dad and I keep her home as long as we could and the amazing staff on Medical B at Valley Regional Hospital who were so good with Mom right up to her final days. The care and compassion you showed will be with us forever. Mom had a strong belief in God and we will all miss her so much, but we know she's at peace now and free of pain. The funeral service, conducted by Rev. John Moses will take place at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 24, (unfortunately due to public gathering restrictions we have to limit it to invitation only). A live stream of the service will be available to be viewed through the funeral home website 'Live Stream' option beginning at 10:55 a.m. ADT, Monday, August 24. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Windermere Community Hall or the Victorian Order of Nurses – Annapolis Valley Branch. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Online guestbook may be signed by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
