Obituary

Jean Beckwith, a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 29, 2023, with her daughter by her side.

Jean was born in Newton Massachusetts to Beulah (Jones) and Charles Ramsay. The family moved to Digby NS where she grew up, received her education and met the love of her life, Roger Beckwith.  Their children, Charlie and Lorraine were both born and started school in Digby before work took the family first to Sussex NB and then to Truro NS.  After retiring, Roger and Jean moved to Cambridge (Kings County), in what they always called "God's Country".

Jean was a life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, joining in 1949. She proudly wore her 70 Year Jewel, but always hated standing up to be recognized.  She was a Charter Member and Life Member of St Mary's Chapter No. 35 (Digby) and an honourary member of both the Myrtle Chapter No 21 (Truro) and Laurel Chapter No 67 (Berwick).  Jean was a Past Matron of St. Mary's Chapter and held several offices over her 74 years of membership.

Jean also volunteered at the Colchester Hospital in Truro and at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Lorraine (Steven) Coffin, daughter-in-law Susan Beckwith, grandchildren Paul (Ashley) Coffin, Jill Coffin, Scott Beckwith and Teri Lyn Beckwith.  Also survived by Roger's nephew and six nieces, who she loved very much. Beside her parents, Jean was also predeceased by her husband Roger, son Charles, special cousin Marie Wamboldt.

Jean was an open and friendly woman, easy to love and will be missed by more people than can be listed here.

In keeping with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Thursday, October 5, 2023 in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Rev. Deborah Lonergan-Freake officiating. An Order of Eastern Star tribute will begin the service conducted by St. Mary's Chapter, Digby. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Nictaux Cemetery. Donations in Jean's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
