Obituary

BIGGS, Jean Alice ~ of Middleton/ Kentville, NS. With deep sadness, we announce that Jean Alice Biggs, age 90, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2023, in Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, NS. Born in Tay Creek, NB, she was a daughter of the late Austin and Julia (Leslie-Thomas) Boone.

Mom worked at the beauty counter at a Fredericton drug store, boarding in a home across the street from where our dad lived.  They met and what followed was 50 wonderful years of marriage, working and raising their six children in Middleton, NS.  She and Dad were proud of the life they created from their humble roots.  Mom was happiest when spending time with her family, believing the more the merrier. She was a dedicated volunteer for the Soldiers Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the Macdonald Museum and enjoyed a good game of bridge with her friends.  Mom's love of travel took her throughout Canada and to many locations internationally.

She is survived by her children, Donna Grant, Calgary, AB; Debbie (David) Bolton, Wolfville, NS; David (Joyce) Biggs, Killam, AB; Dianne (Geoff) Carter, Ottawa, ON; Doug (Shelly) Biggs, Cambridge, ON; and Dale (Trevor Grant) Illsley, Tupperville, NS.

She was a much-loved Nanna to her grandchildren, Stacey (Brad), Kris (Lorell), Tiffany (Rick), Lyndsay (Alex), Alexandria, Drew, Brad (Erin) and Kevin; step-grandchildren, Meghan (Erin), Graham, Christopher (Kevin), Jeanene (Cody) and Kristan (Melissa); and Nanna-Ocean to her 16 great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brother, William (Rachel) Boone; and sister-in-law, Bella Boone.  She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald Arthur Biggs; her siblings, Freddie Boone, Gerald (Mildred) Boone, Mary (Paul) Atkinson, Greta (Ted) Spilman, Henry Boone and Mildred Boone.

Mom lived her long life with dignity and as independently as possible. We are grateful for the compassionate care she received from the staff of Wedgewood House for Seniors, Kentville, NS, and the team of doctors and nurses of Medical A and B floors at Valley Regional Hospital.

Visitation will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 20 , in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free 1-855-825-3448, from where a service in celebration of her life will take place at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 21.
