Obituary

FOSTER, Jean Ethel – age 93 of Berwick, Kings Co., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in Grand View Manor, Berwick. Born in Armdale, she was a daughter of the late Alexander Hammett and Ethel Blanche (Brinkman) Lamphier. Jean had retired in 1981, after 40 years with Sears in Halifax and in August of that year moved with her late husband, John Foster to Berwick. She enjoyed 72 years in the Order of the Eastern Star, being a life member and Past Worthy Matron of Evening Star Chapter No. 28, Halifax and life member and Past Worthy Matron on two occasions of Laurel Chapter No. 67, Berwick. Jean was an active member of Christ Anglican Church, Berwick, having been a lay reader, choir member and was also an active member of Kings Crusaders. She enjoyed the many family gatherings, visits and outings, especially if it involved lobsters. Jean particularly loved being by the water. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are sister-in-law, Kathleen Foster, Kentville; nieces & nephews, Anne (Kevin) Dort, Waterville; John (Shelley) Foster, Grafton; Linda Zwicker, Shelburne; Sandra Belliveau, Ontario; Alexander (Marilyn) Lamphier, Falmouth; Johnny (Carol) Church, Marion Bridge; Elaine Rhodenizer, Ottawa, Ont.; Michael Foster, Falmouth; Pat Foster, Calgary, Alta.; Sue Foster, Ireland; great nieces & nephews, Hillary and Amber Dort; Courtney and Josh Foster; Christopher and Karen Zwicker; Jason and Jennifer Church. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John Freeman Foster; brother, Eric (Lilian) Lamphier; sisters, Elma in childhood; Margaret (Richard) Hubley; Freda (Leonard) Fawcett. There will be no visitation. An Order of the Eastern Star Tribute followed by service in celebration of Jean's life will take place beginning at 2 p.m., Monday, in Christ Anglican Church, 238 Commercial St., Berwick. Rev. Ruby Carter will officiate with interment in the Berwick Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Christ Anglican Church, Kings Co. S.P.C.A. or to a charity of choice. A special thank you from Jean's family to the staff of the Chase Unit at Grand View Manor for such wonderful care given to her. Also a special thank you to her neighbour, Carol Hampsey for being such a great friend for many years.
