Obituary

JACKSON (WALKER), Jeanne Shirley.

Age 97 years, of Middleton and formerly of Halifax, passed away peacefully on 19 December 2019 in Grand View Manor Nursing Home, Berwick. Born in Halifax, Jean was the daughter of the late Edwin and Ruby (Dill) Walker. She spent her early life in Bridgewater before moving to Halifax where she finished school and then spent the war years working as a stenographer in HMC Dockyard. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Harold Jackson, a navy man whom she married in 1944. After raising two children Jean returned to work, this time with the Nova Scotia Department of Development, a job that perfectly suited this vivacious and outgoing woman. These were some of the happiest times for Jean; she loved her new job, discovered a love for the game of golf and spent the summers playing the sport at the Bridgewater Golf Club and relaxing and entertaining at the family cottage on Fancy Lake. Upon retirement many happy winters were spent in Ellenton Florida where she met a whole new group of friends, continued to play golf and was the life of the party. When her beloved cottage finally became too much to manage, Jean and Harold moved to Middleton to be near their children. Jean is survived by her daughter Lynne (Jim) Eakins, Middleton, son Peter (Sara) Jackson, Aylesford; grandchildren Cory (Candace), Jimmy (Stacey) and Chris Eakins, Alex and Amy Jackson; great grandchildren Aiden, Caleb, Liam, Jake and Tessa Eakins plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, brothers Alan, Ralph and Eric, sisters Norine (Bob) Calder and Phyllis (Clayton) Payne. Special thanks to all the people who cared for Jean in her later years. Arrangements are under the care of the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., Middleton 902-825-3448. In lieu of flowers donations to St. Paul's United Church, Spryfield, Grand View Manor Nursing Home, Berwick or a charity of your choice. The family will celebrate her life during the annual Walker Family reunion in 2020. Online condolences can be made by visiting: www.middletonfuneralhome.com
