Obituary

ARMSWORTHY, Jean Elizabeth "Jeannie" ~ Age 87, of Garland, Kings County, formerly of Halifax, N.S., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Valley Hospice, Kentville. Born on April 13, 1938, in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Spencer A. and Erma K. (Mitchell) Armsworthy. Jeannie was born and raised in Spryfield, where she proudly lived independently for most of her life. She worked for many years as a unit clerk in several Halifax health care facilities, where her kindness and sense of humor made a lasting impression on those around her. Jeannie had a deep love for animals and a passion for simple joy; camping, time spent in nature, and hunting for treasures while thrift shopping. She cherished her many outings and shared laughter with her niece Darlene, with whom she made wonderful memories before Darlene's passing. You could often find Jeannie walking the streets of Spryfield, stopping for coffee with her dear friend Doug, or trying her luck on the machines at Mickey's. She was friendly, funny, and always up for a chat. Recently, Jeannie moved to the Annapolis Valley to live with her niece, Denice Mapplebeck, and husband, Neil. There, she enjoyed her final months surrounded by family, the beauty of the countryside, and the warmth of care that filled their home. She is also survived by a son; daughter-in-law, Tanya; grandson, Michael; sister, Phyllis Westhaver; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Kenneth; sisters, Maureen Micheau and Beverly MacDonald; niece, Darlene Comeau; and several other family members. A private interment took place on Wednesday, October 15, in Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Halifax. Donations in her memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation, Kentville. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Valley Hospice, especially nurse Amanda Graham and Dr. Karen Burch, for their exceptional care and compassion. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll-free 1-855-825-3448. Online condolences may be shared at www.middletonfuneralhome.com
