REED, Jean Esther ~ Age 88, of Wilmot, formerly of Middleton, Annapolis Co., N.S., passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born on September 19, 1936, in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Elva (Sabean) MacKenzie. Jean grew up in Middleton and graduated from Middleton Regional High School in 1954. She put herself through Teacher's College, having the big desire to see Canada, so she thought she could do that through being an Elementary School Teacher. Jean taught two years in Nova Scotia, one year in British Columbia, then to Quebec and returned to Nova Scotia, teaching in Cornwallis until her retirement. She loved her family and was a devoted member of St. John's United Church, Middleton, where she had been active in the Sunday School. Surviving are sons, Glynn Reed, Brampton, Ont.; Kenneth Reed (Darrin Lively), Middleton, N.S.; grandchildren, Aleksas and Vitas; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Donald M. Reed (1983); brother, Harry MacKenzie; sister-in-law, Jean Newcombe; nephew, Jamie. There will be no visitation, and a memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 9 , in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Rev. Elisabeth Jennings officiating, with interment in Hillside Cemetery, Port George. Donations in her memory may be made to Children's Wish Foundation of Canada.
