Jennifer Pauline Burbidge

Jennifer Pauline Burbidge passed away in the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre in Middleton on September 18, 2026, at the age of 84.

Born in England during WW 2 to Maxwell and Margaret (Peggy) Pierce. Jennifer and Peggy came to Canada in 1946 through Pier 21 in Halifax. Jennifer grew up on the family farm on Ruggles Road, Prince Albert and graduated from Middleton Regional High School. She then went on to graduate from Normal College in Truro with her teaching license. During her time in Truro, a friend arranged drives back to the valley on the weekends and that is how she met, what would be, her husband, Karl.

Jennifer and Karl married in 1961 and lived in a small travel trailer following his work with Standard Paving until their daughter Cheryl was old enough to attend school when they moved to the house in Brickton that Karl had built several years prior.

Jennifer then went to work in different offices in Middleton over the next several years. In the mid 1980’s she went back to school in Truro and obtained her Early Child Education. She opened the Jack and Jill Nursery School in Clarence, which then moved to Paradise. She worked there until her retirement.

Jennifer always had a love of animals, from her horse Trigger she had in her teens, to the small farm they had in Brickton. Over the years there were chickens, goats, cattle, geese and horses. She was known for selling her rhubarb and tomatoes in her little roadside stand.

Jennifer is predeceased by her husband Karl, parents Max and Peggy, sisters Eleanor Tree, Marsha Pierce, brother Malcolm and great granddaughter Morgan.

She is survived by sister Margaret (Mike) Martell, daughter Cheryl (Bob), granddaughters Megan (Richard) Armstong, Michelina (Tod) Paley, grandson Matthew Medicraft, and great-grandchildren Hayden, Rylee, Jonah, Charlotte, and Liam.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Heart of the Valley Long Term Care Centre as well as Dr. Saxon and Kim Grant for the wonderful care that Jennifer received.

Visitation will be held from 2:00PM until the service begins at 3:00PM Friday, September 25, 2026, in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448 with Rev. Dr. Danny Smith officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Middleton Baptist Church or to your favourite animal charity.
