BASS, Jeretta Faye. 1944-2013 - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeretta ("Jeri") Bass, resident of Freeport, Nova Scotia, who died in the Yarmouth General Hospital on March 27, 2013. Jeri received an undergraduate degree at the University of Western Washington and earned a Master's degree in Anthropology from the University of Victoria in BC. With her partner Diane Wells she moved to the remote Inuit village of Paulatuk, NWT, where Jeri was a supervisor in the school system for several years. They then moved to Victoria, BC, where for many years they operated an antiquarian bookstore, Wells Books. Jeri became a qualified appraiser and a member of the Antique Road Show. With retirement, the couple moved to Nova Scotia: first to Liverpool and later to Freeport. Predeceased by her marriage partner Diane, Jeri is survived by her sister Joyce Siler of Detroit, nephews Robert Eric and Joseph Michael, step-daughters Pamela Wells (Bob Nicholson) and Tere Wells (Claude Laflamme), and step-grandchildren Zachary, Zoe and Alexi. She will be especially missed by her close friend Ann Schweitzer of Freeport, her friends Bonnie MacLachlan and Renee Clark and her canine companions Jasper and Dickens. Interment took place in Hilltop Cemetery, Freeport. Donations to any animal rescue group in Jeri's name would be welcomed. Jeri had a life-long habit of looking for patterns, exploring subtle connections as she made sense of her world. This inclination was strengthened by her education in anthropology, her voracious reading and love for antiquarian books. In recent years her feisty spirit and unquenchable curiosity were curtailed as her body increasingly failed to support this life of the mind. We believe that her released spirit is delighted to finally know more clearly the mysterious complexities of the universe. Her life partner Diane is overjoyed to have her close again. Jeri, you are loved. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home Ltd. 398 Main Street, Middleton, NS (902) 825-3448.
