Obituary

SAXON RN, Joan Marie ~ It is with the greatest sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Marie Saxon RN (nee Inglis), age 86 of Middleton, NS, formerly of Antigonish, NS. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, due to complications of Alzheimer's, Joan passed away peacefully in Graceview Seniors Residence with her family by her side. Born in Tupperville, NS, she was the daughter of the late James "Carmen" and Marion (Potter) Inglis. Joan was a Registered Nurse who trained at the Children's Hospital in Halifax. She was employed with the Victoria General Hospital and held postgraduate training in Psychiatry. Joan and Roland raised their family in Antigonish. She was an active member of the St. James United Church UCW and was awarded lifetime membership. She was well known in the community and had a lovely smile and hello for everyone. Joan was an avid gardener and could be seen each day tending to her plants. She was very talented at painting, knitting, pottery, cooking and stained glass. She so enjoyed fishing and meeting new people along the wharf.  She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren. Joan is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Dr Roland Saxon Obstetrics, Middleton; daughter, Heather Saxon, Dental Hygienist, Cornwall; sons, John Saxon, Information Specialist, Calgary; Dr Paul Saxon, dentist Middleton; Dr Steven Saxon, dentist Sydney, NS; her daughters-in-law, Fran (John),  Dr. Michele (Paul), Wendy (Steven); grandchildren, Roreigh and Drew Saxon, Calgary; Liam, Caroline and Maura Saxon, Middleton, Hannah (Anthony) MacPhee, Souris, PEI; Brian Saxon (Shayla MacLean), Sydney, NS and great-grandson, George MacPhee.  She is also survived by her sister, Janie (Alan) Barkhouse, Tupperville; brother, James "Jim" (Loretta) Inglis, Tupperville; her aunt, Irene Potter, Bridgetown, and many cousins.  Besides her parents, she was predeceased by twin siblings in infancy and infant daughter, Carrie Saxon.  Joan enjoyed attending her nursing class five year reunions and loved catching up with former classmates.  A very special thank you to Dr Leslie Riberio, Lorraine White and the caring and loving staff of Graceview Seniors Residence for exceptional care of our beloved Joan.  In keeping with Joan's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 12 , in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., 1-855-825-3448. Donations in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Society; St. James United Church, Antigonish; St. John's United Church, Middleton.
