SKINNER, (Parsons) Joan Marie – June 24, 1939 – December 5, 2015. Joan Skinner passed away December 5, 2015 at Heart of the Valley Nursing Home in Middleton, Nova Scotia. She was born in Rose Blanche, Newfoundland, the daughter of Philip and Winnifred Parsons. She married Reg Skinner in 1961. She is survived by her sons, John, Michael (Barb) and Darryl; two grandchildren, John and Donna and a great grandchild Chloe. Also survived by sisters, Myrtle Styles, Hope Spardrakes, Bertha Parsons, Phyllis (Philip) Spinney, Gloria (Stan) Tutty, Carmelita (Peter) Jollymore. She was predeceased by her husband, Reg Skinner; sisters Rita Watchorn, Eileen Jewer and brother Herbert Parsons. Joan was baptized in 1964 and devoted her life to her God Jehovah. She was an active member of the Port aux Basques congregation in Newfoundland until she moved to Kingston, Nova Scotia in 2008. While in Newfoundland, she lived in an isolated area for most of her years in the truth. She was only able to attend a few meetings, but in the last twenty years, she had the telephone hookup and gave regular comments and also participated in the Theocratic Ministry School, giving talks over the telephone. In the mornings she would do her daily text and bible reading which Reg, her husband, always respected and would not interrupt. She loved her children and grandchildren. She was kind and mild tempered and if you asked for her advice about something she would take time to think before replying. She was surrounded by music in her home as Reg and the boys played and sang traditional "Newfie" music and she found great comfort in the Kingdom melodies and Darryl playing his guitar and singing as she slipped into the final stages of Alzheimers. Joan left behind a great legacy of faithful service to Jehovah. She had an excellent reputation in Rose Blanche as a faithful witness and a caring wife and mother. She will be missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Kingston with Mr. William Bell officiating.
