Obituary

THORNHILL, Joan Eloise ~ Age 90, of Berwick, Kings Co. With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mom, Joan Eloise Thornhill at Middleton, on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Mom passed peacefully surrounded by family. Born on May 10 th , 1932, in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Spurgeon and Margaret (Baltzer) Nixon of Berwick.

Mom lived in several provinces throughout her life but always considered Berwick her home. She enjoyed many activities especially if they involved friends and family. She loved when the family would gather at her parent's cottage in Turners Brook. Her winter vacations in Florida were also a highlight for her.  She loved to bake and share her wonderful creations with all of us.  She worked a number of years at the Western Kings Memorial Hospital, Berwick, on housekeeping staff and helped her parents at Nixon's Lunch in Berwick. Upon returning to Nova Scotia in the late 1970's she began working again in housekeeping at Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville until she could no longer work due to illness.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jane (John) Melanson, Kingston; Janet (Clyde) Wells, Bridgewater; and son, Robert (Janey) Carter, Berwick; her daughters-in-law, Janet Carter, Kingston; and Connie Carter, Bridgewater; sisters, Patricia Reid, Aylesford; Linda (Ronald) Davison, Ontario; and Nancy (Willie) Arenburg, Berwick; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
