BENT, Joann Evelyn - 94yrs, of Bridgetown, formerly of Middleton, passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014 in Mountain Lea Lodge, Bridgetown. Born in West Saint John, NB, she was a daughter of the late Guy Raymond and Mary Evelyn (Osborne) Hagerman. Joann was a founding member of the Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church in Middleton. In her earlier years she played softball for the Amherst Red Wings and won two Maritime Ladies Softball Championships, and continued to play softball until age 45. During her travels, she swam in four oceans and volunteered at Chainama Hospital in Zambia. Joann devoted her life to raising her family and loved spending her summers at her cottage at Crescent Beach. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed making dried flower arrangements. Joann was a member of the Wilmot Garden Club; African Violet Society; IODE and loved to sing in various church choirs. She is survived by sons, Robert, Lawrencetown; Larry (Evelyn), Halifax; Stephen, Summerside, PEI; Alan (Beverley), Bridgetown; David (Darlene Pietrak), Toronto; daughters-in-law, Rhonda Parker, Wilmot; Karan Bent, Inglisville; sister, Grace Allan, Amherst and 13 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Allison "Al"; grandson, Jim Bent; sister, Rae Sarson, Amherst; brother, Ronald, Edmonton, AB. The family offers a heartfelt thank you to Mountain Lea Lodge, especially the staff of Cardinal Wing, for their care and compassion shown to our mother. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM, Friday, February 28, 2014 in the Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church, Middleton with Rev. Sweis Ubels and Rev. Dr. William MacDougall officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton.
