Obituary

Johan Erik Klein - 71, has passed away of natural causes at the Halifax Infirmary in Halifax, Nova Scotia on March 13th, 2024.

Johan was born on July 16th, 1952 to the late Ib Klein and Seva "Helen" (Davidson) Klein in Middleton, Nova Scotia. After graduating from Middleton Regional High School in 1970, he went on to obtain a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1973 and then a Bachelor of Education at Acadia University in 1974.

After graduation, he landed various teaching positions in Middleton and Weymouth, continuing his teaching journey in a small town of Matagami, Québec. On his return to Nova Scotia in 1981, he would become a substitute teacher for the Halifax Regional School Board until finding a position with the Nova Scotia Community College. He would then transition careers as a case worker at The Department of Community Services until his retirement.

Anyone who knew Johey (pronounced yo-ee) would tell you that he was the life of the party. He loved to send gifts and letters to friends and family across the globe, and would make sure to spoil his family every Christmas. Any big-name music act that came to the Atlantic region he was sure to be there, particularly The Rolling Stones and any member of The Beatles. He was passionate about politics, was an avid collector of military items, and never missed a Blue Jays game on TV.

Johan is predeceased by his sister Ingrid Klein, his mother Seva "Helen" (Davidson) Klein, his father Ib Klein, and his brother Ib "Brother" Klein. He is survived by his daughter Erika Klein, sister Eda (Klein) Elliott, nieces Jennifer and Ingrid, nephew David, many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many Scandinavian cousins. His legacy will live on in the hearts of many friends, students and clients he helped along the way.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service per Johan's request.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Halifax Infirmary, various EHS staff, and the staff of Northwood Halifax Campus for the care given to Johan over the last years of his life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. The family suggests: Adsum for Women and Children (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or Diabetes Canada.
