BLACQUIERE, John Douglas Sgt. (Ret.) ~ age 70, of Greenwood, Kings Co., NS, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, in the Veterans Unit at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in St. Nicholas, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Harold and Anna (Warner) Blacquiere.
John grew up in St. Nicholas, PEI. He joined the military where he spent the next 28 ½ years before retiring in 2001. John loved the outdoors and was involved with Boy Scouts where he was a leader for 15 years in the Greenwood area. He was a former member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 98, Kingston. He met Lois in 1998, and they moved in together in 2008. John developed Parkinsons, which he has battled for the last 13 years.
He is survived by his spouse, Lois Murphy; sons, James and Jason; stepsons, Wayne, Brandon and Bradley; sisters, Alice (Don) Perry; Miscouche, PEI; Debbie (John) Rudolph, Port Hawkesbury; Sandra (Joe) Praught, Port Hawkesbury; sisters-in-law, Bebe Blacquiere, Jacksonville, NB; Debbie Blacquiere, Tyne Valley, PEI; brothers, Hal, St. Nicholas; Michael (Kay), Summerside, PEI; Donald, St. Nicholas, PEI; godmother, aunt Alice (Al) LeBlanc, Port Hastings; aunt Evelyn Southerland, Port Hawkesbury; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Leroy and David; sisters-in-law, Kendra and Marcella Blacquiere. Visitation will be held 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Friday, December 19, 2025, in the Middleton Funeral Home, with funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment will follow in the Tremont Cemetery, Tremont, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
