It is with deep sorrow we share the peaceful passing of devoted husband and father, at 80 years of age on July 28, 2021. John was born May 22, 1941 and raised in Halifax's west end by Thomas and Anne (Veinotte) Currie, where he lived until he met, then married his love and sweetheart. He settled in Dartmouth for several years before moving to Middleton, also known as the heart of the valley, the place he proudly called his home for the past 44 years. He is survived by his loving wife and partner of almost 55 years Carolyn (Morash), Nictaux; daughter Lauri-Leigh (Jeremy) Fancy, Hubley; brothers Joe, Peter (Pauline); several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by both parents and eldest brother Tom. John had a passion for cars; once he got his license he began racing, working at gas stations, then onto several dealerships, prior to retiring as a car salesman at Fundy Ford.  He was the former president of the Middleton Curling Club. He enjoyed drives, gardening, wood working, cooking, yard work, baking, pickling, making jams and jellies, animals, restaurants, church, the daily newspaper, crosswords, cookbooks, dancing, watching the news, evening TV and listening to music, especially Elvis Presley. John was a family man, who took great pride in both his home and yard; he was always ready and willing to lend anyone in need a helping hand. He was a social butterfly who loved to entertain; he hosted huge holiday gatherings with all the fixings at both Christmas and Thanksgiving, with annual bbq's and corn boils to look forward to every summer. He was well known for his quick wit, fiery charisma, sense of humor, kindness, strength, courage, and charm. John will fondly be remembered for the twinkle in his blue eyes, his generosity of spirit and his tremendous will to always see tomorrow, which continued to remain even when his health failed him. Special thanks to Dr. Paul Maclean who was his primary care physician for over four decades and to Whitehills LTC staff who took exceptional care of him, making the last part of his journey comfortable and filled with compassion, even though his stay there was short, he left it with impact. A celebration of John's life will take place after cremation on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at St. Monica's Catholic Church in Middleton at 11am, with a private interment to follow at St. Monica's Cemetery. There will be a small family gathering at John's home in Nictaux afterwards. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimers Society of NS.
