Obituary

HORSBURGH, John Richard "Dick" ~ Age 80, Berwick, Kings Co., NS, on Thursday, June 27, 2019, Richard Horsburgh passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, after a long battle with dementia, at Parkstone Enhanced Care. Born in Berwick, Richard was the youngest son of the late Spencer and Helen (White) Horsburgh. Predeceased by his two brothers, Herbert and Robert Horsburgh and his sister, Peggy Neil. Richard will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Shirley Horsburgh (Webber), Halifax; son, Allan Horsburgh (Sonya), Stillwater Lake; daughter, Wendy Doane (Timothy), Hammonds Plains; grandchildren, Shelby, Corey, Jesse, and Jeremy and two great grandchildren, as well as his sister-in-law, Norma Horsburgh, Virginia. Richard spent his working career with the NS Department of Finance - Provincial Tax Commission. He was a lifetime member, and dedicated supporter of the Berwick & District Lions Club. There, he spent many years raising funds and bringing awareness to his fondest venture, Dreams Take Flight, contributing to sponsorships for over 60 local children to experience a trip to Disney World.  He also was proud to serve his community as Berwick Town Councillor for eight years. The best worst joke teller ever, he always brought a light heart to everyone that knew him.  And we all know that every time it was hot out and he saw a dog chasing a cat, they were always both walking. Your jokes will carry on, adding smiles and groans for generations to come.  We love you and miss you friend, husband, father and grampy!  Rabbits, rabbits, rabbits! A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at the Berwick & District Lions Club (Kings Mutual Century Centre), 225 Veterans Drive, Berwick, Friends and family are encouraged to come join from 2-4 p.m., on Friday, July 19 th .
