John "Jack"
Edwin Britney
June 19, 1934 – January 13, 2023
BRITNEY, John Edwin "Jack " ~ It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our much-loved father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. John "Jack" Edwin Britney, age 88 of Kingston, Kings Co. who passed away peacefully Friday, January 13, 2023, at home.
Jack is survived by his sons, David (Marianne) Britney, Middleton; Marc (Karla) Britney, Middleton; grandchildren, Steven, Erin, Kyra and Alaina; great grandchildren, Mercy and Augustus; sister, Dee Britney, Guelph, ON; brother, Robert (Linda) Britney, Kelowna, BC. Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia (Cruickshank) by six weeks and his sisters, Joanne and Sharon Britney.
Jack was born in Lethbridge, AB., on June 19, 1934, to the late George and Dorothy (Neilson) Britney and loved growing up on the family farm. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1953 as a radio officer and gunner, later to spend most of his career as a navigator, accumulating over 10,000 hours of Long Range Patrol. He retired after 34 years of service. He loved volunteering at the Greenwood Aviation Museum especially when the grade six classes from the local schools would come in for a field trip.
Jack enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was building the family cottage at Trout Lake, an addition to the family home or just an insulated deluxe doghouse. He was a history buff and mental math whiz and liked to do the daily Crossword in the Herald and solve jigsaw puzzles.
Jack loved animals of all kinds. He loved his dog, 'Sparky', his cat 'Garfield', and of course his boy's dogs over the years. He was an avid bird watcher and fed the squirrels and birds right up until his death. Jack enjoyed his daily lunches at the Green Elephant with his sons to have coffee, toast with marmalade and on special occasions, the blueberry bomb. He would regale his sons with stories of living on the farm as a child and stories of the Cold War during his time in the Military. We are very grateful to the staff and owner of the Green Elephant who treated Jack like a king.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michele Saxon for her outstanding care provided to both parents, Pat and Jack and to the staff at Senior Homecare by Angels.
An interment for both Jack and his wife, Patricia will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2023 in North Kingston Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., toll free: 1-855-825-3448. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
