Obituary

Burfitt, John Sidney Elwood -94 of Kingston NS, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2024, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with family by his side.

Born in Kingston, John was raised both there and in Upper Granville before settling in Kingston where he met and married his wife of 54 years Lydia (Pat) Lightfoot in 1948.

After working a variety of jobs, including bartending at 14 Wing Greenwood and delivering milk for the Kingston Creamery, John completed studies to become an electrician. He then formed a partnership with Ceril Collins Sr., beginning Burfitt & Collins TV Sales and Repair in 1954. John, who had a talent to do just about anything with his hands, built his family home where the business was started and later, built the shop that became famous for both level of service and fairness of practice. Following Ceril's retirement in the mid 80's, John continued the business until his own retirement in 1996.

John had a passion for work and an entrepreneurial spirit, combining these qualities with his love for gardening, he supplied Scotian Gold and various valley farm markets with tomatoes and strawberries for several years. John had a vast knowledge of history and could carry on a conversation about most any topic. Always willing to share, his story telling could keep you entertained for hours.

John is survived by daughters, Paulette Arnburg and Wendy (Robert) Ricketts; grandchildren, Brandon, Cassandra, Travis, and Gregory (Amanda); great grandchildren, Sydney, Gabe, Nova, Dax, Everett, Odynn and Brooks; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Lydia (Pat), parents, John Sr. and Eleanor Burfitt, sister Pamela (Patrick) Sheridan, brother James (Darlene), and grandson David Arnburg.
