John Francis McNeil

McNeil John F. ~ Age 88, of Aylesford, Kings Co., N.S., passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 28, 2026. Born on August 18, 1938, in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Daniel and Margaret (McWhirter) McNeil. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, the former Audrey Savage; sons, Scott and Mike; siblings, George, Dan, Robert, Marie, Peggy, Francie, Tommy, Billy, Jimmy, Eva, Darrell, Debbie and Donnie.

He is survived by his second wife, Colleen Stephenson; daughters-in-law, Bonnie and Jen; grandchildren, Nick, Justin, Mikayla, Rachel, Zachary, Anika and Dyson; great grandson, Kieran; stepsons, John and Justin Myles; siblings, Tina (Don), Mickey (Diane), Donna, Mary Ruth (Danny) Toni (Dave), Coody (Diane).

John had been a boxer and left school at an early age for employment. He had worked in a coal mine and drove transport trucks to the United States. John had served his country for 22 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, and after his retirement worked at Michelin Tire. He was an active member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Parish, Berwick. John was known as a kind, caring and thoughtful man who was truly loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be truly missed and thought of often.

Visitation will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday evening in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 120 Mill Street, Berwick. Rev. Fr. Lawrence Hyginus officiating, with a reception to follow in the Parish Centre. Interment will be in Berwick Cemetery.
