Obituary

GIFFIN, John Leason - 82 of Middleton passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS surrounded by his wife and children. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Lester and Evangline Giffin. John is survived by his loving wife of 61 years Maxine (Lightfoot) and children Michael (Nancy), Port George; Debra (Wayne) Robichaud, Amherst; Cheryl (Peter) Harris, Bloomingon; Steven (Shelley), Fall River; and Tracey Giffin (Daniel Pearson) Brooklyn, Annapolis County; sister Audrey Bateman, Middleton; brothers Randolph (Thelma), Saint John, NB; Wilfred (Betty Anne), Halifax; Ron (Pat), Kentville, Ed (Marlene) Mill Village; Jim (Jan) Moncton, NB; and Fred, Liverpool; grandhildren Tess, Tara and Martina Giffin; Jennifer, Brad and Beth Robichaud; Josh, Jacob, Lindsey and Caleb Harris; Sarah and Samantha Giffin; and Carly Giffin; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Cecil Bateman and sister-in-law Margaret Anne Giffin. John was very much a "people person" and always ready with a good story and joke. He especially enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Greenfield with his brothers and fishing buddies. His love of fishing was passed along to his grandchildren. John's happiest moments were at family get togethers. By John's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Middleton Funderal Home, Rev. Bill McLeod officiating. A reception will follow the service at the Funeral Home. Interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, V.O.N. or the I.W.K.
