LITTLE, John Hartford – age 84 of Middleton, NS passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Margaretsville, NS he was a son of the late Guy and Leora (Ward) Little. John worked with the Royal Canadian Army as an Electrical Mechanical Engineer (RCEME) retiring after 27 years of service. He was affectionally known as 'Red' by those close to him due to his once bright red hair, a trademark of the Little family. John could frequently be seen walking the sidewalk from the hollow in lower Middleton to the Soldiers' Memorial Hospital every day sometimes twice a day; alone or with a grandchild or great grandchild along for the trip. He played guitar; was an avid bingo player and enjoyed a good game of crib or a challenging game of online solitaire. John was a Warden for the Department of Lands and Forests and in his younger years, enjoyed working in the woods and around his hobby farm. John was a devoted family man and went above and beyond to help anyone in their time of need. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 54 years, the former Mary Blinn; daughters Karen Trask, Wilmot; Heather Little (Shawn Brodeur), Berwick; son Michael Little, Kingston; brothers Aubrey (Betty) Little, Margaretsville; Elwin Little, Kingston; Frank (Elaine) Little, Kingston; Arthur (June) Little, Nictaux; Carroll (Judy) Little, Kingston; grandchildren Maryanne (Steve) Wagstaff, Zachary (Jaycee), Harold, Jared, Devin, Tabitha and Isabelle; great-grandchildren Owen, Ben, Piper and Seth and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his brother Lewis "Neil" and his son Derek John (in infancy). In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, April 23, 2017 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 with Rev. Deacon Don Boudreau officiating.
