Morris, John "Wayne" – 85, Wilmot, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 in Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late John Freeman and Martha (Mombourquette) Morris. Wayne was a telecom technician in the Canadian Armed Forces for 21 years and a commissionaire for 17 years. He was very big in sports, especially baseball and played for the base teams in Cold Lake and Germany. Hockey was a favorite of course since his boys were avid players and now some of his grandchildren. He loved to watch any child play whether he knew them or not. He was a 52 year member of the Knights of Columbus, a eucharistic minister, lecturer, member of the cursella movement and sang in the church choir. He loved to sing. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Kimberly (Perry) Diamond, Whitehorse, Yukon; sons, Keith (Elizabeth), Washington State; Chris (Meagan), Ottawa; grandchildren, Liam and Colin Diamond, Jack Morris, Calum, Nealey, and Charlie Morris; special brother-in-law, Al Whapham; step-children, Paul Melnick, Robert Melnick; Janet (Robin) Clayton; Marianne (Dave) Brittney; step-grandchildren, Steven, Erin, and Julia; two step-great grandchildren, Mercy and Gus; brothers, Gerald (Mary), Antigonish; Bruce (Patricia), Dartmouth; Johnie, MacKinnon Harbour. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Judy; brother, Bill; and sister, Judy Gutzeit. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 am on Monday, March 31, 2025 in Queen of Heaven Chapel, Greenwood with Fr. Magnus Chilaka officiating. By request, family flowers only. A reception in the Church Annex will follow the service. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery, Kingston. Donations in memory may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, Alzheimers, or VON. The family would like to thank Dr. Kevin McGuire, staff on Medical Floor, and VON. Special thanks to Catherine, his respite buddy.
