Obituary

PHINNEY, John Harcourt Jack - 77 of Nictaux West passed away Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton he was the son of the late Cyril and Frances (Palmer) Phinney. Jack farmed all of his younger years, retiring in 1977. During his retirement he enjoyed gardening, golf, curling and was a past president of the Middleton Curling Club. He was an active member of the Middleton Baptist Church having served on various church committees. Jack was a past volunteer with the Annapolis Valley Health Board and was a member of the Drug Dependancy Board. He dearly loved his children, grand children and great grandchildren as well as telling a joke or story to family and his group of friends at Tim Hortons. He is survived by his wife the former Marie Bruce; daughters Joan (Terrance) Balcome, Nictaux; Tamela Phinney (Erwin Banks), Nictaux and Cindy Balcome (Mike Peterson), Lawrencetown. Grand children Jillian (Mark) Kinsman, Jennifer Balcome (Tim Cole), Nicholas Bent, Andrea Bent, Alexander Balcome and Courtney Balcome; great grandchildren Logan, Amy and Bethany. Cremation has taken place and by Jacks request there will be no funeral service. Visitation will be held 2 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448, followed by a private family graveside service in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton, Rev. Danny Smith officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul MacLean and the nursing staff at Soldiers Memorial Hospital as well as the Valley Regional Hospital for their compassionate care they provided to Jack during his time there. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia Lung Association or charity of choice.
