Obituary

BARLOW, John "Jack" Robertson - 86 of Wilmot passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville with his wife Irene and one daughter by his side. Born in Bridgetown, he was a son of the late William and Dorothy (Mitchie) Barlow. Jack was a member of the 1st Battalion RCR and was wounded during his tour of duty in Korea during the Korean Conflict. In recognition of his service during this period, he was the recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation from the Republic of Korea. He later retired after 40 years of service with DND. Jack was a member of the Kings County Veterans Club and was also a Life Member of the Korean Veterans Association. He was a Life Member and Past President of Branch #98 Royal Canadian Legion, Kingston, having served on numerous committees over the years. He was a recipient of the 60th and 75th Anniversary Service Award and Past Officer and Past President Medal. He was a member of the Middleton Baptist Church. Jack enjoyed square dancing and was Past President of the Berwick Belles n Bows Square Dance Club. Camping was a favorite outdoor activity and he was a Life Member of the Good Sam Campers Group and a member of the Local Chapter 1st Nova Scotia Good Sam Apple Valley Chapter. He is survived by his wife the former Irene Baxter; daughters Patricia Harrison, Pickering, Ontario, Paulette (Scott) Hartlen, North Williamston, Susan (Dave) Davis, Nictaux and Wanda (Michael) Drane, Lower Sackville. Sisters Barbara (Edward) Freund, Delaware and June Coleman, Berwick; grandchildren Melissa, Angela, Scott (Candice), Nicolle (Morgan), Kevin (Chelsea), Christopher; great grandchildren River, Austin, Reece, Brody, Rylee, Ashton and Lexi; former son in law, Norm Harrison as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Dot and Rhoda, half- sister Eleanor, brother Bill and grandson in law, Dean. At Jack's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 in the Middleton Funeral Home 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 commencing with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute at 7 p.m. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 3rd in the Middleton Funeral Home, Rev. Robin McCoombs officiating, followed by a reception. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Parkinson Society Maritime Region.
