John Darcy Roope- of Hill Grove, NS passed away August 12, 2024 at the age of 92 in the Digby General Hospital. Born August 26, 1931 to the late Darcy and Ruby Roope of Hill Grove, NS, he graduated from the first class of the Digby Regional High School, then from the Nova Scotia Agriculture College in 1951. He started a poultry business on his home farm, later taking over his father's dairy business, then branching into a beef cow/calf operation as well as growing many acres of potatoes for sale. He was a member and officer of many of the farm organizations in the area – being a founding member of the Digby Co-Operative Pasture Ltd. He married Ruth Murley, October 18, 1958, and she became his farming partner. They enjoyed camping over the years and after selling the farm, enjoyed five Februarys in Cuba in the company of college graduates. In his later years, he enjoyed his large vegetable and flower gardens, with the help of friend and neighbor Stephen. He was also a long serving member of the King Solomon Lodge No 54 in Digby for 69 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth, and daughters Joanne (Tom), Woodville; Stephanie (Tim), Milford; granddaughter Brooklynn as well as step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, and relatives in Maine, USA.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his oldest daughter Sheila and her husband Ken Rhys. Cremation has taken place. A funeral will be held Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 2 p.m. in the Hill Grove United Baptist Church with Rev. Leon Langille officiating. Interment in the Hill Grove United Baptist Church Cemetery.  Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
