WILSON, John Herbert – age 78, of Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2017, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Herbert and Jean (Vidito) Wilson. John had attended school in Halifax, where he obtained an accounting degree. He spent six years in the military with the Black Watch Regiment in C.F.B. Gagetown, N.B., and two years in the Militia at Camp Aldershot. John had worked at O.H. Armstrong in Kingston, and later at Thompson's Transfer in Middleton as a bookkeeper. He owned and operated Valley Data Center, Middleton, for 25 years. John taught accounting at night school in Middleton. He was an avid outdoors man and after retiring became a bona fide trapper and was a registered Wild Life Officer, a registered guide for bird hunting for visiting Americans. John was a life member of Harmony Lodge, No. 52, A.F. & A.M., Aylesford, where he was a past master, having served for two years and was a Meritorious Service Jewel holder. Also in the masonic order, John had served as both District Grand Director of Ceremonies and District Deputy Grand Master for Kings District and was a member of Shriners International. He was a member of Aylesford United Church, having served in several positions, including Elder, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer, Trustee, Youth Group Leader as well as President of the Official Board. John was able to erect three monuments, including the monument in the Aylesford Park, during the Aylesford United Church 200th anniversary. He was able to get grants from the government for the large addition on the church. John was a Boy Scout and Ventures Leader as well as a Little League Baseball Coach. He was a member of the Aylesford & District Lions Club, where he has been both President and Secretary as well as Zone Chairman. John was a foster father of 11 children, after being a foster child himself, he also had 15 foster grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Marilyn E. Tupper; children, Kathleen (Luis) Santos, Angela (Roy Forrest) Wilson, Adrian (Lori) and James (Carol) Wilson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Girardin. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Marie Finley. Visitation will take place from 7-9 p.m., Tuesday evening, with a Masonic Tribute at 6:30 p.m., both in Aylesford United Church, 2414 Hwy No. 1, Aylesford, from where a memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 9. Rev. John Moses officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date in the Aylesford United Church Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to Aylesford United Church or to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
