Obituary

Marshall, Jon Drake (Major- retired), 85 years old, from Greenwood NS passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Valley Regional Hospital.

Jon was born in Montreal, Quebec on July 29, 1936 to Phyllis and Herbert Marshall. He grew up in Timmins and Toronto, enjoying many sports and working during his teen years to help provide for his family. He joined the RCAF in 1953, training first as a radio operator, then earned his GED in order to take his commission in 1967. As an RCAF navigator he flew on the Argus and Aurora. His military career took him to Germany, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Greenwood and offered him the opportunity to compete in many sports- including basketball, baseball and golf. Many of his favourite hours were spent with family and friends on his beloved Greenwood Golf Course.

Jon is survived by his loving wife of almost 65 years, Helen; daughters Deborah (Brian) Walker, Greenwood, Catherine (Gerald) Whitford, Lac La Biche, Alberta, and son Jeffrey (Lee Day), Cold Lake, Alberta. He will be missed by his 5 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as his 10 great grand-children. Jon also leaves behind two brothers who loved and respected him deeply – Len (Peggy), Uxbridge, Ont and Barry (Pauline), Irondale, Ont.

Jon was predeceased by his parents, as well as a daughter, Susan (in infancy).

In keeping with Jon's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family ceremony will take place at a later date.

The family wishes to thank the VON, as well as staff at the Transition Care Unit at Soldiers Memorial hospital who took such great care of Jon. Thanks also to Dr Kevin McGuire and Dr Jyri Ainamo  for their compassion and care.
